New 10MP digital camera photos smaller businesses that old camera?

My new Sony 10MP camera takes pictures resolution higher and they are less than 1 MB in size, but my old Sony 5MP camera would take digital photos and they are 3-5Mb in size. Is what is supposed to happen or is my new camera is designed to give huge photo file size?

Check What is the size the image that you set on the camera. You have several options. A 10MP Sony camera (DSC H20) provides: 3648x2736 2592x1944 2048x1536 5MP 10MP 3MP VGA 640x480 and a few other parameters to the big screen. With easy shooting mode you have large (10MP) and Small (3MP). In both cases the default is 10 MP, you must have already changed the resolution.
