Does anyone know specifics of contract photographer's rights?
I do work for a wedding photography company, but I am not an employee. I shoot on my own equipment and then turn in the pictures. From all the reading I've done, the company who paid me and I have equal rights to the ownership of those photos. I have some of them posted on my facebook, not as advertisement, just in a portfolio gallery. The pictures are not watermarked with the company's logo nor my own, but as a courtesy to the company I put their website in the caption of each image.
Am I correct in believing that I have the right to use the images just as the wedding photography company does?
Is there a specific site that would be able to put this into black & white for me?
PS-There is no written agreement between this company and myself.
As the others have said - it really depends on your contract terms and conditions.
As a general rule (in the UK at least) if you are employed then the employer owns the copyright unless otherwise agreed.
employment means that they (the company) are paying employers N.I. and deducting your tax at source (PAYE) etc.
If you are a freelance or contractor then you should have sorted this out from day one, in fact before day one.
Some companies will want you to give up your copyright others won't but will have a clause in the contract which may restrict your own useage of the images.
You need to check this and if you are in this situation in the future then ensure you check your contract before starting.

I love photography and want to buy a digital SLR. It has never been an owner of a DSLR before. All cameras that have owned have been Canon, so I'm very familiar with that brand. At work I use a Nikon camera so I'm familiar with it too. I'm not sure how I'm going to pass, but lets pretend for a moment that the money does not matter (haha). I would like a camera that works well in low light, does not produce much fruit. I would like an optical lens of Nice, and good colors. I like taking pictures of people and children. Obviously, I'm going to do much research on my own, but based on what I just said, what is a Canon and a Nikon camera, you should consider? I am interested in doing professional photography work, when I grow up!
Since you put "haha" I'm going to assume that money is actually important. Two decent cameras are the Canon XSi and Nikon D60. Both come with similar kit lens - 18-55mm zoom. The goal of the kit are decent but not spectacular. An additional objective Low-cost is ideal for photos of people is a F1.8 50mm. Both Canon and Nikon have a version of a very reasonable price of this objective. The 50mm will be much better in low light The goal of the kit too.
