They designed a leadership characteristics of inquiry composed of thirty-eight open-ended questions designed to capture "Personal Best" stories peak leadership experience.

The last study was conducted in 2002 and the prioritized list of leadership characteristics is as follows:

They recognize that people can be overwhelmed by large, complex and / or long-term goals, so they set interim targets that promote easier "quick wins".
Leaders also untangle red tape and give people clear pointers unambiguously successful achievement of objectives. They create the environment in which people can succeed.
(2) Creation a shared vision
The leaders clearly and passionately held vision of what the organization can be changed. They have skills and energy to enthuse and inspire people to share that vision, and also to see and get excited about possibilities future.

Leaders are ambitious and seek opportunities to challenge and change the status quo. They seek innovation and improvement of the organization, and are willing to experiment, take risks and accept failures inevitable as part of the learning experience.
(4) Enabling and encouraging people to Act
